INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE NASAL SHOWER NEILMED
The Sinus Rinse Nasal Shower is easy to use. By slowly squeezing the bottle, you rinse your sinuses and sinuses with light water pressure. That way your nose and airway stay open and you get more air.
STEP 1
Wash your hands first. Fill the clean nasal douche with lukewarm tap water at body temperature. Only do this in the Netherlands. In other countries you fill the bottle with the right amount of lukewarm distilled, filtered or previously boiled water. You can heat the water in a microwave in 5 to 10 second increments to avoid overheating the water, damaging the nasal douche, or burning your nasal cavity.
STEP 2
Cut a corner of the SINUS RINSEâ„¢ Nasal Rinse Sachet and pour the contents into the bottle. Tighten the cap tightly. Hold the cap of the nasal irrigator closed with one finger and gently shake the bottle to dissolve the mixture.
STEP 3
Bend forward comfortably over the sink and tilt your head down. Keep your mouth open without holding your breath. Place the cap snugly against your nostril. Gently squeeze the bottle until the solution flows out of the opposite nostril. Some saline solution may get into your mouth. Do not swallow the solution. For a good rinse it is important that you use at least a quarter to half a bottle (60 ml to 120 ml).
STEP 4
Blow your nose gently, without pinching it completely, to avoid putting pressure on the eardrums. If possible, gently pick your nose once or twice so that the remaining solution can clean the area at the back of the nasal cavity (nasopharynx). Sometimes the solution can get down your throat. Spit this out. Tilt your head to the side in the opposite direction of the nostril you just flushed. This will remove any remaining solution that may still be in your nose.
STEP 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 to clean your other nasal passage.
STEP 6
Clean the bottle and cap (see cleaning instructions ). Allow the SINUS RINSEâ„¢ Nasal Irrigator, Cap and Tube to air dry on a clean paper towel or use the NeilMed NasaDOCK Storage Kit (sold separately) to hygienically store the Nasal Irrigator, Cap and Tube.
Replace your nasal douche after three months for hygienic reasons.
USE NEILMED NASAL RINSE SALINE
We recommend that you prepare a new saline solution for every nasal rinse. Do not use old, residual saline solutions! Rinse once or twice a day, or as directed by your doctor. The NeilMed saline solution is safe and non-addictive.
For best results, use NeilMed Nasal Rinse Saline Solution. These are matched in amount of salt to the NeilMed 240 ml nasal irrigator, NasaFlo® Neti Pot or Sinugator® electric nasal irrigator. You can also use NeilMed Nasal Rinse Salt with other irrigators or nasal irrigators as long as you use the correct amount of water.
We do not recommend using your own homemade saline solutions, as they may have the wrong concentration. Salt bought in the store is not pharmaceutical grade and therefore unsuitable for medical use. Non-medical saline solutions or home garden and kitchen solutions can lead to a painful feeling, insufficient relief of your complaints or even nasal congestion.
DRIP
In rare cases, especially if you’ve had sinus surgery, saline may remain in the sinuses and nasal passages and then drip from your nostrils hours after rinsing. To avoid this harmless but annoying discomfort, an extra step follows after rinsing: Lean forward, tilt your head to the side and blow your nose. Then, tilt the head to the other side and blow your nose again. You may need to repeat this several times. This will help rid your nose of any excess mucus and residual saline. If you notice that you often suffer from dribbling, don’t rinse your nose right before going to sleep or when you have to leave.
PREVENT DISCOMFORT TO YOUR EARS
- If you’ve had ear surgery, talk to your doctor before you start nasal rinsing
- If you have an ear infection or clogged ears, it is better not to rinse your nose
- Rinse with lukewarm, distilled, filtered, or previously boiled water
- Keep your mouth open
- Do not hold your breath while rinsing
- Tilt your head while rinsing
- Gently squeeze the bottle while rinsing; don’t squeeze too hard
- Stop rinsing if you feel moisture getting near your ears
- Always blow your nose gently
IMPORTANT OTHER INFORMATION
Do not rinse your nose with cold water. This results in a severe burning sensation, much like getting water in your nose in a swimming pool. Therefore always use lukewarm water (hand warm or body temperature). In the Netherlands you can easily use tap water. In other countries, you use distilled, micro-filtered (down to 0.2 microns), commercially bottled water, or water previously boiled and cooled to body temperature. Mix this water with NeilMed® Sinus Rinse™ Nasal Rinse Salt.
Do not use the nasal irrigator if your nasal passages are completely blocked or if you have an ear infection or blocked ears. If you have recently had ear surgery or sinus surgery, talk to your doctor before using the nasal irrigator. If you experience pressure in your ears or a burning sensation in your nasal cavity, stop rinsing and seek advice from your doctor. We recommend that you rinse your nose at least an hour before going to bed and no more after that. This prevents any residual salt solution from dripping.
Keep the salt and saline solution out of the reach of children. Do not swallow the solution. If that happens accidentally, it won’t hurt. The amount of sodium in a sip of saline is negligible. You just pee it out again.
Patients who are unable to stand or bend near a sink should not use this product. We also advise not to use this product for bedridden patients or persons who are severely weakened.
Store NeilMed Nasal Rinse Salt in a cool and dry place.

To Clean
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLEANING NASAL SHOWER NEILMED
The NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Irrigator is made so that you can easily clean it. It is important that you read the cleaning instructions carefully, so that you use the NeilMed ENT products in a hygienic and safe way. For reasons of hygiene and to prevent contamination with bacteria, we advise you to use the NasaDock Plus storage set for storing your nasal douche and neti pot.
GENERAL
It is important to keep the NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Irrigator neat, dry and hygienic. Due to the importance of good hygiene, we strongly advise you to replace your nasal douche every three months and to use the NasaDock Plus storage set.
Routinely inspect the bottle and tube regularly for discolorations and cracks. If there are visual signs of aging or permanent color change, you should clean the nasal douche even more thoroughly than you do daily. If the discolorations remain after cleaning, throw the item away and buy a new one. Our recommendation is to replace the nasal irrigator every three months for good hygiene.
We recommend that you perform the following steps after each use of the NeilMed NasaFlo neti pot:
STEP 1
Rinse the cap, tube and nasal irrigator (bottle) with running water. Fill the bottle with lukewarm water (use distilled, micro-filtered (0.2 micron), commercial bottled water or previously boiled and cooled water if necessary).
STEP 2
Add a few drops of liquid dish soap or baby shampoo.
STEP 3
Screw the cap with tube onto the bottle. Hold your fingers over the opening in the cap and shake the bottle well.
STEP 4
Then squeeze the nasal irrigator hard so that the soap solution can clean the inside of the tube and the cap. Then empty the bottle.
STEP 5
Thoroughly rinse the soapy water from the bottle, cap and tube and place all parts on a clean paper towel to dry or preferably use the NeilMed NasaDock Plus storage set.
NO DISHWASHER, BUT VINEGAR OR ALCOHOL
Do not use a dishwasher to clean the inside of the bottle. Although our nasal irrigator is dishwasher safe, a dishwasher will not adequately clean the SINUS RINSEâ„¢ bottle. The water jets of the dishwasher cannot reach all parts of the interior properly, so that the bottle is not cleaned thoroughly enough.
If you want to use an additional method for a thorough cleaning in addition to the method described above, use concentrated white vinegar or isopropyl alcohol (70% concentrated). Clean your nasal douche with one of these agents as described above.
DISINFECT YOUR NASAL DOUCHE
In rare cases, especially if you’ve had sinus surgery, saline may remain in the sinuses and nasal passages and then drip from your nostrils hours after rinsing. To avoid this harmless but annoying discomfort, an extra step follows after rinsing: Lean forward, tilt your head to the side and blow your nose. Then, tilt the head to the other side and blow your nose again. You may need to repeat this several times. This will help rid your nose of any excess mucus and residual saline. If you notice that you often suffer from dribbling, don’t rinse your nose right before going to sleep or when you have to leave.
